Stain Remediation
Stain Remediation
There is a science to resolving stains in rugs that is often downplayed, particularly in the era of internet searches and the bounty of home remedy offerings that these searches provide. The truth is, effective stain remediation is rooted in chemistry and without an understanding of the relevant variables, it is genuinely the case that attempts to resolve rug stains at home may cause more harm than good. The following steps outline the best course of action to employ in the event of a spill or accident at home:
Absorb Spilled Liquid
Place a clean, white towel or cloth directly onto the rug at the site of the spill, pressing gently downwards to help absorb as much liquid as possible. You may need to repeat this process a few times with fresh towels or cloth, depending on the volume of the spill. Be careful not to rub the cloth back and forward across the rug during this step, as this will increase the affected area and may cause fibre damage.
Resist Adding Liquids/Powders
Resist the urge to spray or treat the rug with liquids and powders. While it is instinctual to want to act, many commercially available products and home remedies only expand on the initial problem by causing pH swings, destabilising dyes and “burning” rug fibres.
Make a Booking
Make note of what the spill is (e.g. pet urine) and arrange to deliver your rug to our facility during our opening hours (no advance booking required where choosing this option), or contact us to schedule the collection of your rug.
Wash + Stain Treatment
Once your rug arrives at our facility we will perform our washing process first, as this may be enough to resolve stains. Where the washing process alone hasn’t remedied stains and/or discolouration, our team will contact you post-wash to discuss and offer our secondary stain removal treatment.
